On Gubment, Corporations and what not

Robert Stone: Big, wealthy companies that can afford to hide behind phalanxes of rich, corporate lawyers and creative (ie. corrupt) accountancy practices seldom see any, "percentage", whatsoever in doing the right thing. Therefore it seems to me that the correct answer is to REMOVE LEGAL INCORPORATION as well as the DISPROPORTIONAL ACCUMULATION OF WEALTH from the social, economic and legal pictures..... as this is the ONLY WAY to cause big companies to 1) stop using their wealth to pervert the law in their own favor, and 2) force big companies to protect themselves from liability the only effective way which can remain thereafter, which is to say that they will not be able to hide behind their corporate charter, non-existent, "shareholder obligations", and phalanxes of rich corporate lawyers and creative accountancy practices having engaged in risky-to-deadly business, "opportunities", WHICH THEY WOULD NOT HAVE ENGAGED IN WITH THEIR OWN PERSONAL FAT POTENTIALLY IN THE FIRE!! They are mining the earths minerals and making the earth sick. Along with humans. They pollute our food with pesticides and GMOs and people are getting sick. there are far more diseases now then there ever was in history. These CEO's and investors of these companies are getting fat with riches while poverty and starvation is an epidemic problem. The truth is that most people have put too much faith into these companies and their governments to do the right thing, and sadly those companies and government do not do the right thing. One of the biggest lies is that we need jobs to survive. So here is how they break a society and brainwash the citizens. First take away their food source and control it. which they have done, taint their food source with chemicals to make them sick, over fund companies that make toxic pharmaceuticals, over invest in technology to keep the citizens occupied with their awesome gadgets which has worked 100% in getting the results needed to keep people in a state of believing that we need to move forward into the future as fast as possible. People have become far too comfortable with their Greed and so called advancement that societies can no longer maintain, which is why we have so many problems in society with drugs and crime. The powers that be have successfully brainwashed billions of people. So while the fat cats get rich the rest of the world suffers. So exactly how does Capitalism benefit the citizens of the world? The whole purpose of the governments is assure security of all citizens of their perspective countries, but we see far too much them protecting big companies over the people. So how is that beneficial to our society?

On Basic Income

the following started out as response to a comment made within the thread of a post I shared about basic income. Unfortunately my response got too long, as I began to address more than just the one comment but also a lot of the other things the individual had said or intimated on other parts of the thread and for some reason, wouldn't post on the thread. But that's of no import, I still felt I wanted to save these thoughts so posting them here.

Here's a link to the post I had shared. ammario-reza/those-lazy-jobless-bums Here is the comment I was replying to. "How are people being suppressed from prospering? There are boundless opportunities in this country if you work for it. The son of a janitor can get his Doctorate of Philosophy and become a distinguished professor as my father did. A child born in the Bronx can become one of the world's leading astrophysics, as did Neil deGrasse Tyson. One is not limited in opportunity by their birth, as is the case in many places in this world. There is the ability for opportunity and advancement in the united states. One must simply strive for it. To remove the stresses of life would be to remove the impetus of life."

There are not boundless opportunities. Something you need to think about is the phrase "Privilege is thinking something isn't a problem because it isn't a problem for you" Kudos to your father, but not everyone can do what he did there aren't boundless janitor positions and there not boundless openings for professors. Some kind of hand up was given to anyone who prospers. There is no such thing as a self made millionaire. The people at the top get the most welfare of all.

The facts are that technological unemployment is real, happening now and happening fast. And more and more jobs are moving to machines, more and more jobs will move to machines. And that is a good thing, they are more efficient, and often more resource thrifty. So this idea you have of "make something and sell it" is a problem. We do not need more production; We do not need more consumption and waste and the making of things simply for profit. This idea you have of everyone working at a job doing something productive is unsustainable and actually a liability. We live on a finite planet. The planet needs us to stop producing. Another fact is that if everyone on the planet consumed as much as the average US citizen, four Earths would be needed to sustain them. That's not ok. But hey at least we're not the worst. The UAE beat us at 5.5 planets. Whose going to pay for the basic income, do some research there have been many calculations as to how this could be achieved. Earth Overshoot Day 2016 lands on August 8 this is the date when humanity has exhausted nature’s budget for the year. So again, people need to stop the constant producing. Laying around on a lawn chair or a body's couch for awhile will actually be good for the planet and just might keep us from extinction.

As to the idea that people would be lazy. Scientific study has proven otherwise. They show that emotional sources of motivation are more powerful than money, such as building something lasting, contributing to society, etc. Money is a byproduct, it is simply the thing we need within this system in order to subsist. To have basic human comforts that enable us to have the great ideas, the insight the motivation. And I believe money is a lazy way to calculate one's worth. But that's another topic. Basic Income experiments have proved this idea erroneous. "Large-scale experiments done in cities like Seattle and Denver," in the 70's, " found that surprisingly, hardly anyone actually stopped working, and instead reduced their hours slightly, with men reducing their hours the least — by a maximum of 8%" Very similar results have been found more recently in studies in India, Kenya and Uganda. Another good question, is, would you be lazy, ________, if you were given a monthly living grant, would you be lazy? Probably not, right, so why do you assume anyone else would be?

As for anyone who would refuse to do anything. I would think of that as a mental health issue. There is no reason an able, rational, mentally healthy person would refuse to do "anything" to just lie around forever. So in the case of the few people that might, or the people who are physically or otherwise mentally unable to 'contribute' yes, I would most definitely be fine with their being housed and fed. I like to think of justice as it was described in the first section of Plato's Republic. I'll summarize it briefly "...a dog if harmed becomes a worse dog by the standard of excellence by which we judge dogs...must we not then say of a man that if harmed he becomes worse by the standards of human excellence...?" The reason this is profound to me, is because when you get right down to it, making sure that every single humans basic needs are met, when it is possible to do so, is the proper course of action not really because it's the right thing to do, but rather because it is the efficient thing to do. If people are lazy and lackluster it is because they live in a society that forces them into competition and often unnecessary labor just in order to survive. It forces them to have money and a job in order to exist and yet there never seems to be enough to go around.

Soul Nourishment: the brilliance of Alan Watts

Now what happens then when you introduce technology into production?
You produce enormous quantities of goods by technological methods but at the same time you put people out of work.
You can say, "Oh but there will always be more jobs."
Yes, but lots of them will be futile jobs.
They will be jobs making every kind of frippery and unnecessary contraption, and one will also at the same time have to beguile the public into feeling that they need and want these completely unnecessary things that aren't even beautiful.
And therefore an enormous amount of nonsense employment and busy work, bureaucratic and otherwise, has to be created in order to keep people working, because we believe that "the devil finds work for idle hands to do."
But the basic principle of the whole thing has been completely overlooked; that the purpose of the machine is to make drudgery unnecessary!
And if we don't allow it to achieve its purpose - we live in a constant state of self-frustration.

Counter Military Recruitment Thoughts

A young 19 year old man, I've known since he was about 9 years old just told me that he just took the test to join the army. His mother and I were fairly close friends for a bit, having bonded as fellow single mamas and so Andrees and this boy spent quite a bit of time together. I'd only just reaquainted with him- he came up to me at the cafe and said hello and inquired about my son. I had no idea who he was, my son's been living with my sister since he was 10 and lately I've run into various young adults who remember me so well and I feel like an ass for not remembering them. So at first I'm racking my brain trying to figure out which random old school friend he might be. Then I realized it wasn't a school friend at all but this friend, who I remembered very well. We talked a bit about how my boy's been, how he's been. He talked of starting community college. I encouraged him toward welding. At one point he smiled really big and suddenly there was that 9 year old boy, I remembered, full of wonder, curiosity and potential for a bright future. So hearing his plan just yesterday, made me very sad. I sat there trying to look positive and understanding, but inside I was beseeching, "no, no, please, no!" I didn't have words to say to him to dissuade him. Partly because I'm a pussy and fear confrontation. Partly, because I can understand the urge to get the hell out when one is feeling stuck. And partly because I'm just not versed enough in my opposition- I also don't want to be yet another person just negating a young person's thoughts without info to back it up.  I had my laptop in front of me and wonder why I didn't just ask him if he had time to watch a video with me. I know why, actually, it's because in the moment, I wouldn't occur to me what exactly to show him so I put this together for him and for future reference. I wish I'd done it a long time ago. I don't expect, necessarily to change his mind. Just give him and others and provide myself with some rational information that we don't normally get from society. Here is the start I will add to it as I have time and find more information.

PREFACE
Economic hit men (EHMs) are highly paid professionals who cheat countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. They funnel money from the World Bank, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and other foreign "aid" organizations into the coffers of huge corporations and the pockets of a few wealthy fami-lies who control the planet's natural resources. Their tools include fraudulent financial reports, rigged elections, payoffs, extortion, sex, and murder. They play a game as old as empire, but one that has taken on new and terrify-ing dimensions during this time of globalization. I should know; I was an EHM, I wrote that in 1982, as the beginning of a book with the working title, Conscience of an Economic Hit Man. The book was dedicated to the presidents of two countries, men who had been my clients, whom I respected and thought of as kindred spirits — Jaime Roldos, president of Ecuador, and Omar Torrijos, president of Panama. Both had just died in fiery crashes. Their deaths were not accidental. They were assassinated because they opposed that fraternity of corporate, government, and banking heads whose goal is global empire. We EHMs failed to bring Roldos and Torrijos around, and the other type of hit men, the CIA-sanctioned jackals who were always right behind us, stepped in. I was persuaded to stop writing that book. I started it four more times during the next twenty years. On each occasion, my decision to begin again was influenced by current world events: the U.S. invasion of Panama in 1989, the first Gulf War, Somalia, the rise of Osama bin Laden. However, threats or bribes always convinced me to stop. In 2003, the president of a major publishing house that is owned by a powerful international corporation read a draft of what had now become Confessions of an Economic Hit Man. He described it

"...The chief aim of any power at any of these conferences has not been to achieve disarmament to prevent war but rather to get more armament for itself and less for any potential foe. There is only one way to disarm with any semblance of practicability. That is for all nations to get together and scrap every ship, every gun, every rifle, every tank, every war plane. Even this, if it were possible, would not be enough. The next war, according to experts, will be fought not with battleships, not by artillery, not with rifles and not with machine guns. It will be fought with deadly chemicals and gases. Secretly each nation is studying and perfecting newer and ghastlier means of annihilating its foes wholesale. Yes, ships will continue to be built, for the shipbuilders must make their profits. And guns still will be manufactured and powder and rifles will be made, for the munitions makers must make their huge profits. And the soldiers, of course, must wear uniforms, for the manufacturer must make their war profits too. But victory or defeat will be determined by the skill and ingenuity of our scientists. If we put them to work making poison gas and more and more fiendish mechanical and explosive instruments of destruction, they will have no time for the constructive job of building greater prosperity for all peoples. By putting them to this useful job, we can all make more money out of peace than we can out of war -- even the munitions makers. So...I say, TO HELL WITH WAR!"

"...your actions in the military involve far more than whatever's in front of you or in your gun sights at any given moment. Our military operations around the world—and soon that will mean you—have produced all kinds of blowback. Thought about a certain way, I was being sent out in 2002 to respond to the blowback created by the first Afghan War and you're about to be sent out to deal with the blowback created by my version of the second one.
...

Let me start with my first day "on the job."  I remember dropping my canvas duffle bag at the foot of my bunk in Charlie Company, and almost immediately being called into my platoon sergeant's office.  I sprinted down a well-buffed hallway, shadowed by the platoon's "mascot": a Grim-Reaper-style figure with the battalion's red and black scroll beneath it. It hovered like something you'd see in a haunted house on the cinder block wall adjoining the sergeant's office.  It seemed to be watching me as I snapped to attention in his doorway, beads of sweat on my forehead. "At ease... Why are you here, Fanning? Why do you think you should be a Ranger?" All this he said with an air of suspicion.
Shaken, after being screamed out of a bus with all my gear, across an expansive lawn in front of the company's barracks, and up three flights of stairs to my new home, I responded hesitantly, "Umm, I want to help prevent another 9/11, First Sergeant." It must have sounded almost like a question.
"There is only one answer to what I just asked you, son. That is: you want to feel the warm red blood of your enemy run down your knife blade."
Taking in his military awards, the multiple tall stacks of manila folders on his desk, and the photos of what turned out to be his platoon in Afghanistan, I said in a loud voice that rang remarkably hollowly, at least to me, "Roger, First Sergeant!"
He dropped his head and started filling out a form. "We're done here," he said without even bothering to look up again.
The platoon sergeant's answer had a distinct hint of lust in it but, surrounded by all those folders, he also looked to me like a bureaucrat. Surely such a question deserved something more than the few impersonal and sociopathic seconds I spent in that doorway." From "Letter from an Angry Ranger"
